PLAYING IN PUBLIC

PLAYING IN PUBLIC

He paused in the doorway of the restaurant, surveying the room, and caught my eye as though Adam had been carrying it in his pocket for a long time - a trophy finally returned to its owner. We had booked a table by the window in advance; the city was slowly switching on its lights, and the warm glow fell across his hands, strong, attentive, the sort that knows how to hold and not let go.

I sat upright, hiding a secret beneath the thin fabric of my dress. The discreet remote lay in Adam’s jacket pocket; I knew it, I’d heard the fabric shift as he sat down opposite me. He didn’t ask, “are you ready?” he simply brushed my lips with his gaze, and that was enough. The first wave stirred low in my stomach, light and teasing, from the small secret beneath my dress - a remote-controlled vibrator in my knickers. The first wave passed again, soft and playful, like laughter in a forbidden place. I held my glass carefully so my nails wouldn’t clink against it.

“You’re glowing,” Adam said evenly, as though it were an ordinary compliment.
“It’s the lighting,” I replied. “And anticipation.”

Adam leaned forward slightly. I felt the vibrations intensify, from a delicate ripple to short pulses striking at the very core. My thigh muscles tensed of their own accord; I crossed my legs, muffling the whisper of silk. The wine grew warmer, fuller, and the tongue in the glass seemed to echo another tongue in my imagination.

The waiter spoke and I don’t remember what; I nodded with effort, as though relearning how to keep my expression composed. He took a few steps and melted back into the hum of the room. Opposite me, Adam’s fingers traced the edge of the tablecloth; there was such patient control in the movement that I wanted to say “be crueller.” Instead, I raised my eyes:

“You know,” I whispered.
“I know,” Adam replied. “And I know how long you haven’t touched yourself today.”
“You told me not to.”

A new setting. A series of short, audacious pulses. They drew a sound from me, like a small intake of breath after laughter. I fixed my gaze so as not to betray any movement. Adam smiled. His fingers tightened around the remote in his pocket, and the wave stretched into a long arc, slow, deep, like hot water poured over skin.

“Until dessert,” Adam said, blending promise with command.

Until dessert, I balanced on the edge. My legs slid obediently against one another beneath the table, my back held a regal poise, while inside everything pulsed in my name. Adam spoke about the city, about the stairs we would climb, about the key turning in the lock… And each word settled beneath my ribs like fingers.

When we stepped outside, the night swallowed us without a sound. In the lift, Adam touched my neck, just once, but it stole all the air from my lungs. The doors closed, we were left in a square of mirrors, and I saw myself: slightly dishevelled, lips parted, like a woman after a dance. Adam stood behind me without touching, and I felt the magnetic kiss beneath my lingerie come alive again.

The flat was dark, like a curtain guarding a stage. I slipped off my shoes. Adam followed. Step, pause, step. I stopped by the window, bracing my palms on the sill, and turned around. The city floated below us like a warm river.

“Take it off,” Adam said quietly. I lifted the hem. The fabric whispered, and the air turned shamelessly cool. He took the remote out and set it on the table.
“Now you,” Adam added. “I’ll just watch.”

I slipped my fingers beneath the elastic, found the small trembling source, and drew it out, leaving a tingling trace on my skin. My pulse thudded in my ears. Adam sat in an armchair, unfastened his cuffs as though preparing for a lecture, and rested his elbows on his knees.

“Place it on your stomach, slowly,” Adam said. I obeyed, sliding lower, stopping almost at the entrance, trembling. Sometimes a single drop is enough to make a flame burn steadier, that’s why I keep a water-based lubricant nearby; it makes every movement softer and deeper.
I placed it.
“Lower. More.”
Adam stopped me just at the edge, and I trembled.

When touch reaches the threshold, the body becomes obedient, like an instrument. I moved the toy lower, catching Adam’s breath, and felt goosebumps rush to my knees. He didn’t move, only his eyes, and they were warmer than hands. I traced along my skin, paused at my clitoris - a brief touch, another - and felt a voice rise from within that made words disappear.

“Turn around,” Adam whispered. I did, leaning on the windowsill, pushing my hips back; the city blurred into pools of light. He approached silently, his hand heavy and certain on my back. Adam didn’t rush. He kissed my neck, where the trembling begins, and took the toy from my fingers.

The first surge Adam controlled himself. Sharp, sustained. I gripped the edge of the sill; the glass barely rattled. The second, softer, like a caress after punishment. I melted, losing all sense of height. The third felt like stepping over a threshold, and in that moment his hand moved lower, caught the wave, covered it, and let the finest trembling current enter me.

“Breathe,” Adam reminded me, and I inhaled as though for the first time.

I felt Adam’s thighs, firm and warm, pressed against mine. There was no hurry; he built a rhythm inside me like a melody. Beat, pause, echo. I dissolved in my own warmth, thick as honey. When Adam entered, it was inevitable, like rain after a storm. I said his name not with my voice, but with my skin, and felt myself unravel, untangle, and come together again, every movement answering what I wanted but hadn’t dared to ask.

The moment stretched on, like a thread you don’t want to break. Adam held me until my body surrendered completely, and then I broke. Bright, deep, with a low, unfamiliar sound. The lights below flickered, neon letters blurred, and I heard him again: “breathe,” now for him too, as Adam released something vital and hot that makes two bodies feel like one.

Afterwards, we stayed silent for a long time. My heart didn’t yet know how to slow, Adam’s hand didn’t yet know how not to rest on my neck. The toy lay on the windowsill, small, innocent, as though it hadn’t just torn the night in two.

“The door closed, and the night dissolved into us. I laughed with my eyes, Adam answered with a touch. Dessert? Already had, but I can always repeat it. And if we do, then with new scenarios from our shared wardrobe of desires: toys for adults that know how to keep the rhythm of a heartbeat.”
